ICP Services

We design and construct electricity connections to the distribution network. Accredited under the UK’s National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS), we are authorised to carry out works that traditionally would have been handled solely by the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO). Their role is particularly important in the delivery of new infrastructure for renewable energy projects, housing developments, commercial sites, and industrial facilities. For further details on the specific services we are able to provide, see our NERS Accreditation page.

Responsible for the design of the electrical connection, ensuring it meets both the technical standards of the project and the compliance requirements of the DNO. This includes selecting appropriate routes for underground cables or overhead lines, determining connection points, and designing substations if required. Once the design is approved, the ICP undertakes the construction and installation of the physical connection infrastructure. We are experienced in laying high-voltage (HV) or low-voltage (LV) cables, erecting overhead lines, installing transformers and switchgear, and building substations.

A key part of the ICP’s role is coordinating with the DNO to ensure the connection integrates smoothly into the existing grid. This includes securing connection offers, submitting designs for approval, and scheduling joint inspections or testing. We ensure the rigorous testing of all electrical systems to develop a safe and reliable operation. The final step is energisation—connecting the new development to the live network, which is typically carried out in collaboration with the DNO.
