Barns of Ayre Wind Farm Orkney:
Engaged by the developers at a very early stage Labron Technical Ltd were tasked with identifying a grid connection proposal for the three turbine 2.7MW wind farm at Barns of Ayre on Orkney.
An initial front end engineering and design phase provided a number of possible solutions including a subsea link and a 17km combined overhead line / underground cable proposal. Labron Technical Ltd were then tasked with providing a final technical proposal that met the commercial and technical needs of the project.
From this a tender specification was developed and issued to potential ICP tenderers. This was followed by evaluation of tenders by Labron Technical Ltd and the selection of a principle ICP contractor.
Securing a tri-party agreement with SSE and engaging the contractor followed along with securing wayleaves and negotiating with project stakeholders to ensure the project delivery met with the very tight schedule requirements.
Labron Technical Ltd went on to managed the entire installation and commissioning phase on behalf of the client Ayrenergy, as well as providing subcontract services and direct works such as the supply of HV equipment and 33kv cable, commissioning services and project management.
We are very pleased to say that following successful the installation of the combined 33kv overhead line and underground cable, substation including 33kv switchgear, protection and ancillary equipment and the active network managements system the wind farm is fully operational.
