Our initial involvement with WM Grants at the Girvan distillery was as HV electrical Engineering consultants working alongside the operations staff to confirm the site protection co-ordination and to ensure that the site global earthing was to the required standards. WM Grants distillery is a top tier COMAH site and as such it is imperative that the meet the very highest safety standards and technical compliances.
We were then invited to tender for the HV and primary LV infrastructure works associated with the building of the new multi million-pound distillation line. This involved the design, supply, installation and testing of a complete new 11kV substation with 11kV primary switchgear, 11kV/415V Transformer, battery charger, remote operating station and associated HV cable installation, termination, jointing and testing. As well as a substation earthing, control and LV cabling.
Following a hard fought and successful tender and with the design phase completed we were able to identify the earthing requirements and complete the earthing installation in time for the civil contractor to complete the groundworks. We then installed the primary switchgear, transformer and GRP before completing the HV cable runs. The HV cabling involved both underground and overhead cable runs as well as completing HV cable joints at height. The new substation was fitted out with lighting and small power before installing the battery charger and remote operating panel and commissioning the entire substation.
The works were completed ahead of schedule and all documentation was submitted within one week of completion. The successful completion of this project resulted in Labron Technical Ltd being asked to tender for the HV infrastructure required for the new Hendricks facility at the Girvan site.
